What can I do about facial spider veins?

Spider veins are technically called telangiectasias and are very common. Modern laser technology has enabled these pesky veins to be treated in a lunchtime procedure with a variety of options. Using lasers, light is transferred through a handpiece about the size of a pen and rapid laser pulses destroy the vein without harming the normal tissue. These light pulses are accompanied by a rubber band sting. It only takes 15-30 minutes to treat an entire area. Resistant veins may need follow up treatments.

There are different lasers that are especially useful in treating facial veins. We have a 1064 yag, an IPL, and a Pulse Dye laser. This is a minimally invasive procedure and rarely requires recovery time. In rare cases some very large spider veins can be treated with a sclerosing agent. This is a medication injected with a very fine needle.

In addition to spider veins the above therapies are also used for other vascular lesions such as hemangiomas, port wine stains and other growths that occur from blood vessels.

Brenda’s Bits

There are so interesting articles that pass by my desk daily that I stack up wanting to share them or reproduce them and now finally have a forum to do so. These certainly are not original thoughts they are taken from trade magazines which are sent to us. At this time I would like to write about Mineral Based Makeups.

Mineral “all natural” makeup has exploded onto the market place. It sounds like a good thing but is it really better for your skin? When we talk about “minerals” in mineral makeup we’re talking about all natural, finely ground minerals from the earth that don’t have the chemicals, dyes and preservatives found in traditional makeup. These usually include some combination of mica, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and bismuth oxychloride.

Mica is the main ingredient used in mineral makeup. It comes in various luminosities ranging from totally matte to highly shimmery. Zinc oxide reflects the sun’s harmful rays, offering a sun protection factor, and also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can have a calming effect on the skin. This may be of particular benefit if you suffer from inflammatory problems such as rosacea or acne. Bismuth oxychloride is a byproduct of lead and copper processing. It has a silky feel and is what gives your skin that “glow” that some love.

he benefits include; a light, natural, long lasting glow, sun protection and perhaps a lighter conscience (no chemicals, dyes or preservatives).

The drawbacks can drying effects on the skin. The culprit is bismuth oxychloride which is a byproduct of lead and copper processing. There are products available that do not contain bismuth.

Eyebrows

Countless women never notice that their eyebrows are uneven and are even less likely to notice it on other people.
Perfect symmetry of the brows, while desirable is not always possible. In the case of very asymmetrical brows a little cheating goes a long way. Permanent cosmetics can assist to create more balanced symmetry of the brows and add a more balanced and youthful look to the face.

You may have even been born with one brow shaped completely different than the other, there is a saying about our bodies relating one side to another, they are sisters not twins. Uneven brow height often occurs later in life with the aging process. One side of your face will sag more than the other, almost always the side you sleep on. The pressure on the skin decreases circulation while you sleep and despite how soft your pillow is, the skin does get pulled somewhat.

Another reason for brow shape or height differences is the shape of the skull, it may differ from one side to the other. The contour of fatty tissue from side to side is also different. Each side of our face has it’s own set of muscles, nerves and blood supply. One side is dominant and much stronger.

Some people have what is referred to as a talking brow, raising one brow more than the other. Each morning in the mirror they draw on their brows without realizing they are raising one brow slightly. Then they move onto the second brow, hours later they realize the brows are uneven.

Enhancing the brow depends entirely on the individual’s facial structure. Some women can get away with a complete change of shape while others are better suited to work with their natural brow.
Booking a consultation is a great way to determine the best options for you.
