Radio Frequency and Tissue Tightening

Radio Frequency (RF) has become a popular tool in the cosmetic world for tissue tightening, cellulite treatment and circumference reduction. This is a non surgical, non ablative procedure.

There are 3 types of radiofrequency - unipolar, bipolar and monopolar. The Accent RF device works both unipolar and bipolar frequencies. Unipolar penetration is the deepest of all radiofrequency devices. It delivers energy as deep as 15-20mm. Bipolar frequency is fairly superficial at 2-4mm.

So how this all works is that through current flow (RF) and water molecule rotation, heat is generated in the tissue. The heat improves the lymphatic drainage, the circulation and blood flow to the connective tissue. This results in increased blood flow, a decrease in the amount of fluids and toxins in the adipocyte (tissue with fat containing cells). The outcome is a reduction in size of the adipocyte tissue (fat cell), elimination of parts of fat and collagen remodeling.

All areas of the body (except eyelids) can be treated. The objective is to decrease the volume of an area, tighten the tissue and create a "lift". A course of 4 to 6 treatments (dependant on the area) are required to see optimal result. Procedures of this nature are not meant to replace a healthy lifestyle, diet or exercise, but to enhance.

Patients with the visible appearance of cellulite and with any skin type are suitable. Treatment is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, people fitted with pacemakers, diabetics, or on photosensitizing drugs.

The Accent is therefore able to sculpt fat as well as tighten skin. It also has a bipolar treatment hand-piece that provides more skin tightening.
